A Word of Thanks

Firstly, we would like to thank teachers in all our partner schools for their fantastic support during the current period. We hope you, your families and your students are keeping safe and well.

We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the guest houses and hotels who regularly accommodate our teaching staff. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility – it is an extremely difficult time for us as a company and we know you too must be facing a similar situation.

Current Bookings

If you have a course booked between now and the end of May, it seems extremely unlikely that the course will be able to happen. We should already have been in contact to discuss your options and possible postponement and to agree alternative course dates later in the year.

For courses beyond this date, we will contact you closer to the time before committing any upfront expenses - and so that we can make all the necessary arrangements. It will also allow us, if necessary, to discuss postponement and alternative dates. It should also avoid any cancellation fees should the course need to be cancelled.

Booking New Courses

New Bookings for the Current Academic Year We are currently only accepting term-time bookings from June onwards. If you are booking a course for this academic year, we would ask you to consider providing one or more alternative dates at the time of booking. This way, we will have a ‘plan B’ if the course needs to be postponed until a later date.

New Summer Courses bookings

We are accepting provisional bookings for the summer up until the start of your new term in September. With bookings during June or July, we suggest providing alternative later date options in case the situation has not normalised by that time.

Bookings for the Next Academic Year and Beyond

If you are a school that regularly runs an English in Action programme, please submit your booking form as usual. This does not require any financial commitment on your part and will allow us to plan our courses in the most organised and efficient way. If the current situation with COVID-19 persists much longer than anticipated, we will liaise with you closer to the time to make a decision about whether to confirm, postpone or cancel the course.

Communication with English in Action

To comply with the strict isolation measures announced by the government, English in Action’s office in Canterbury will close until further notice. Last week we put measures in place to allow many of our employees to work from home. As a result of these arrangements, you will have been able to contact the Company and its staff as normal.

From next week, many of our staff being placed on furlough (short-term paid leave). This is to comply with a government scheme to help social distancing and, at the same time, support small UK businesses. One of the conditions of accessing government support is that staff who have been placed on leave, are not permitted to do any work for the Company.

Instead, we are maintaining a small number of non-furloughed staff to deal with any queries and bookings. This means that we will continue to maintain our communications with you, but you may receive responses from our support team rather than from the named individuals who are your usual point of contact.

A Request for Help

In order to help us respond to enquiries quickly and efficiently, we would ask that you only contact the support team if you have an urgent query. Bookings will continue to be processed and confirmed in the normal way.

For specific enquiries related to any courses you may have booked during the next academic year, we would appreciate it if you could wait until our full team is back up and running. We expect to have all staff off furlough by the end of May at the latest.

Once the government restrictions are removed, we will revert to our normal operational practices. In the meantime, I would like to thank you in advance for your patience.

Please rest assured that we remain available to help with any urgent enquiries. You can still use individual emails and phone numbers to contact us – emails to furloughed staff accounts will be monitored and responded to by the support team.

Promotions and Sales

Members of our promotions and sales team will not be undertaking any promotional trips or visits until the end of May at the earliest. We are reviewing the situation on a regular basis and will only undertake further trips once travel restrictions have been lifted and it is safe for all parties. If we are unable to visit your school, we would be grateful if you could continue to inform your students about our courses. Please let us know if you would like us to send you any flyers or other promotional materials.
